Barril Beach

Barril beach is one of the beaches on Tavira Island and is located in the west of Santa Luzia, close to the village of Pedras del Rei. The place is also known as Armação beach or Três Irmãos beach.

A very important curiosity is that the beach was a fishing community many years ago, which was recently transformed into a place for tourist shops and local restaurants.

Off the coast there are a series of anchors embedded in the sand, nowadays known as the Anchor Cemetery. They were used by fishermen a long time ago and began to be displayed on the beach, becoming a tourist attraction in the place.

The first option is to go by boat. The beginning of the route takes place at the pier in the village of Santa Luzia, 4 km away from the center of Tavira. This tour takes the tourist to have a completely different experience, and brings even more contact with the nature of the place.

The second option is to go by mini-train, which was formerly used to transport goods between the community and the main streets. Nowadays the train is one of the main tourist attractions in the area. The cost to take tourists to the beach is quite affordable. It is important to note that children up to 4 years old do not pay for the tour.

The third option is to walk to the beach from the tourist village of Pedras del Rei. The 1.5 km walk option can be a little difficult for those who are not used to walking frequently, especially in the strong sun.

There is not a good range of hotels on Tavira Island. In the surroundings of Barril beach, however, there are different types of accommodation.
