Luz Beach in Algarve

The Luz beach is located in Vila da Luz in the Algarve, with its old-world charm and, at the same time, offering several tourist complexes for holidays.

Luz beach is divided into two parts, one with fine, white sand, characteristic of the Algarve region, and the other with rocks. The water is clean and transparent, one of the reasons why the beach is always qualified with a Blue Flag.

There are many things to do in Luz beach and village. With a relaxed atmosphere, it is one of the most beautiful places in the region. One of the most pleasant things to do in Luz village is to walk along the beautiful avenue overlooking the beach, with shops, bars and restaurants. This is the perfect place to have fun, and of course, to buy gifts and souvenirs.

One of the heritage sites of the Luz village is the Luz de Lagos Church. This medieval church was built in 1521. During the 15th and 16th centuries, it suffered several lootings, which made it necessary to build protective walls around it.

What to do in Luz beach in the Algarve?

There are some interesting activities to do in this peaceful and pleasant place. You can walk along the coast from Luz village until you reach Porto de Mós, you can cycle around Luz along the quiet roads, or simply spend a relaxing day at the beach.

Luz beach can be an excellent destination for cycling, by the way. Western Algarve roads tend to be free from heavy traffic. The round trip from Lagos to Luz is 15 km and bikes can be rented for an average of €15 per day. The cycle route can be extended to include the fishing village of Burgau and the pretty resort town of Salema, approximately 30km away.

From Luz, there are two coastal walking routes, both east towards Porto de Mós and west towards Burgau. These routes offer challenging climbs, but always with incredible views and scenery. For those looking for a longer walk (4 hours) you can walk from Burgau to Lagos, which passes through Luz, Porto de Mós and Ponta da Piedade. This is a great activity for the winter months.

How to get to Luz beach and village?

From Lisbon, there are three ways to get to Luz beach:

  • The distance between Lisbon and Luz is 184 km in a straight line, but consider the distance by road which is 307 km. The fastest way to get from Lisbon to Luz is by car, which takes approximately 3 hours.
  • By choosing to go by bus, the services from Lisbon to Luz beach are operated by Rede Expressos, and depart from Lisboa Sete Rios station. The journey takes an average of 4h45m.
  • There is also the option of going by train, but it naturally takes much longer to arrive. The duration is approximately six hours.

Where to stay in Luz beach?

The best accommodation is the affable Baía da Luz Resort, which is 200 meters from the beach. This Resort has 2 swimming pools, tennis court, restaurant and children’s playground. The apartments are spacious, air-conditioned and comfortable.

Luz beach and village is a great place to spend a few days on vacation, get out of your routine and discover new places, have a new experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
