Marinha beach is a corner of preserved nature, very attractive, incorporated by the cliff sculpted by wind and sea erosion. The beach is located in Caramujeira, in the coastal region of Lagoa council in the Algarve, in Portugal.

How to get to Marinha beach?

From Lisbon, there are three ways to get to the place. The distance is 192 km in a straight line, but consider a cumulative distance of 271 km by road.

• The quickest way to get from Lisbon to Marinha beach is by car, a journey that takes on average two and a half hours. By car, you can park your vehicle in parking lots close to the beach or, as many do, in the most distant spaces along the road.
• However, if you don’t have a car, don’t worry. It is possible to go by train, a journey that takes on average three hours.
• There is also the option of going by bus. Services from Lisbon to Marinha beach are operated by Rede Expressos and depart from Lisboa Sete Rios station, taking approximately four and a half hours.

The trail of the 7 Hanging Valleys in Marinha Beach

There is a trail circuit called “The Trail of the 7 Hanging Valleys” that passes through Marinha beach, and was elected in 2019 as the best hike in Europe.

It is located between the Marinha beach and the Vale Centeanes beach, on the coast of Lagoa, in the Algarve, on a linear route 5.7 km long and approximately two and a half hours long. On this trail you will pass several kilometers of coastline, with sections considered safe and which do not require physical preparation from an athlete.

However, we recommend avoiding days when temperatures are very high. With incredible landscapes and pleasant vegetation, it is possible to smell the aromas of brooms, junipers (a fruit used to produce Gin) and other plants native to the Algarve region.

The route is very well marked and there are several information panels along the way. It is also possible to observe birds and small animals. The most recommended times to do the trail are spring and autumn.

What are the recommended tours that visit Marinha beach?

A highly recommended attraction is to take a guided tour of the Benagil Cave and Praia da Marinha (Marinha beach). Most companies offer excursions departing from Benagil Beach with a guide leaving from Faro.

The tours are divided into two main activities:

• The guide takes the group inside the cave, to appreciate it from the inside.
• From the cave, the group heads to Marinha beach to explore the stunning views of the cliffs.

According to the main itineraries, when the group gathers at the tour meeting point, the transport will depart from Faro on a journey of approximately one hour to reach Benagil beach.

At this location, the group will have between 5 and 10 minutes to enter the cave together with the guide, where for 40 minutes they can enjoy its unique environment. Spend your time taking photos, swimming or simply relaxing.

The next stop is at the beach considered the most beautiful beach in Portugal. On most tours, the group has an hour to discover the incredible cliffs and views of Marinha beach before returning to Faro.
