Serra da Freita and Arouca Geopark
Serra da Freita is part of the Gralheira massif, extending beyond the municipality of Arouca. A very significant part of the Arouca Geopark geosites (17 of the 41) are located on the Serra da Freita plateau.

Serra da Freita is home to a large part of the Arouca Geopark, which is located within the limits of Aveiro. In 2009, this region received Portugal’s first UNESCO World Geopark classification.
The title was granted due to the unique geological formations found in its territory. There are a total of 41 fantastic geosites, 17 of which are within Serra da Freita, waiting to be explored.
When to visit Serra da Freita and Arouca Geopark?
The best seasons to visit Serra da Freita and Arouca Geopark are spring and autumn. In these seasons the weather is milder, suitable for hiking.
