The Azores islands in particular offer the opportunity to hike through stunning volcanic landscapes. The trail to Lagoa do Fogo, on São Miguel Island, is an iconic trail that takes hikers to a volcanic crater with a lagoon of crystal clear water in the center. Also noteworthy is the “Trilho da Caldeira” on Faial Island, which takes walkers to the edge of a volcanic caldera.
